we have rescued a 3rd instar monarch caterpillar from the roadside near a farm that sprays harmful chemicals to learn about their amazing life cycle.
its important to leave them in the wild, but as a learning tool with the help of the Monarch Teacher Network of Canada, we hope to release this guy in the next couple of weeks!

UPDATE
we did not get to this guy in time, and the kids can now recognize the droopy antennae right from the beginning as they compare the health of this patch to others.
but... losing munch-a-bunch has sparked a fabulous project!! stay tuned.
